The short story is that its not an ECL +3 creature. Awakening increases that. Basically you have an ECL +6 creature instead.

Create the Dire Wolf Cohort as you would normally create the Cohort. This *does* use the Cohort slot. If you wish to then bond the mount, you may do so. This *also* uses up the Bonded Mount slot. This action does not free up either slot. Please apply the Bonded Mount template on top of the current Cohort template. Cohort modifications are applied before the Bonded Mount template. Your Mount may no longer advance as a Cohort once it is bonded.

Original Giant Eagle template rules are listed below. The Dire Wolf Cohort template may be applied in a similar fashion to the aforementioned post.

On page 45 of the DMG, a Dire Wolf is the equivalent of a 6th level character, which on the Leadership table requires a Leadership score of 9.

You get the Awakened part as a freebie, so you would add the extra HD in the standard fashion, however the Rogue Level is a PC level, so it does cost you. An Awakened Dire Wolf, Rogue 1, is the equivalent of a 7th level character, and requires a leadership score of ... 10? I don't have a DMG in front of me :P

The following includes several requested clarifications for the Giant
Eagle Rules Update.

The ECL of the Giant Eagle is +4, not +3. Giant Eagle Cohorts gain
the 22 points available to all Cohorts, and per page 23 in the DMG,
the Ability Score Adjustments should be Str +8, Dex +6, Con +2, Int
+0, Wis +4, Cha +0. Other non-humanoid Certed Geoff Cohorts should
have their Ability Scores determined in the same fashion.

Giant Eagle Cohorts may only gain class levels before they become
bonded mounts. Additional HD from a Bonded Mount status may increase
the size of the Bonded Mount, but these HD only stack with the
original 4 HD of the Giant Eagle for the purposes of determining the
size of the creature.

The base classes available to the Giant Eagle Cohort include Druid,
Fighter, and/or Ranger. The Giant Eagle does not have a favorite
class. The Giant Eagle Cohort may take any appropriate feats which
they have regional documentation for. Cohorts may join Meta-Orgs as
normal PCs, and with Triad approval, may take any prestige class they
may qualify for normally. Cohorts, as with normal PCs, still require
regional documentation for prestige classes, feats, equipment, etc.

Additional specific details may be provided upon request for other
Geoff Certed *SPOILER* Cohorts.
